Ballet and all that Jazz has offered exceptional dance technique training in Hagerstown for over 34 years. Director Lorna Shaffer aims to create a safe, friendly, and positive environment for dancers of all skill levels. BTJ instructors have strong dance backgrounds, and the Crestwood Drive location was designed specifically as a dance school, with spacious studios and changing areas for students.
Training is offered in classical ballet, jazz, contemporary, tap, modern and hip-hop for students starting at the age of 3.
In addition to their regular programs, the BTJ Junior, Senior, and Tap companies have been invited to perform at Holly Fest, The Nutcracker at the Maryland Theatre, The National Cherry Blossom Parade in Washington, D.C., and many other events. The BTJ companies challenge dancers to sharpen their skills by auditioning to be a part of these exclusive groups.
Community outreach is a core value at BTJ. We perform Act 2 of The Nutcracker with our advanced ballerinas through the holiday season, have partnered with Ballet Theatre of Maryland and have created the BTJ Dancers Program working with the HHA.

Ballet and All That Jazz presents its 37th annual recital at the Maryland Theatre on Saturday, May 17th, 2025 at 10 am, 1:30 pm and 7 pm, featuring our youngest to most advanced dancers. Our Senior and Junior company, along with Tap Troupe and Tap Company at BTJ will debut their dances in all three shows. New for 2025: Groups of 8 or more can now purchase tickets online. The morning show opens with our youngest ballerinas performing an enchanting rendition of “Tinkerbell.” The tappers perform to popular TV show theme songs, while the jazz/hip hoppers will dance to old school Disney movies. They will have you moving to the beat!
10 AM Morning Performance Tickets
The matinee show features our elementary-aged children showcasing a flower inspired ballet theme, continuing with “Primetime Grooves” by the tap dancers. Our jazz/hip hoppers dance to popular movie hits such as High School Musical and Camp Rock. Our three pre-modern classes will provide uplifting and positive performances. Finally, our show will conclude with our ACRO dancers showcasing their strength and flexibility.
1:30 PM Matinee Performance Tickets
The evening show spotlights our intermediate to advanced dancers and our five graduating seniors as they perform their final solos. The show will open with experts from “Le Corsaire” and “Sleeping Beauty” from our advanced ballerinas. The Modern dancers will ignite the stage with electrifying pieces, captivating the audience with their dynamic movement. Get ready for a dynamic display of tap artistry as performers interpret the powerful melodies of “Valerie” and “Rolling in the Deep.” Our jazz dancers will have you boogie on down to the groovy sounds of the 70’s. The show will conclude in a high-energy hip hop finale.
